Bankers Blog has a post/review from a prespective of a XC-60 buyer. Here are some of the highlights:
Having had the car for only 3-weeks, my overall impressions of the car has generally been positive. The car isn’t a Porsche in handling or performance but it is very luxurious and comfortable. The ride is firm but compared to my 911 as plush as riding on pillows. As long as you’re not a lead foot, the car drives very smoothly and the vehicle probably has some of the most massive breaks I have ever seen. I am amused at the pet divider being sturdy enough to possibly hold zoo animals (maybe some bobcats), but it does do an excellent job of keep my Doberman where he should be, in the back. With my previous cars I would of had to fight with him when I needed to shift gears. I am also proud to say I have not yet had to utilize the City Safety feature (though my mom could have used this feature in the 850 to prevent her accident). A couple of things that are annoying about the XC60 are the City Safety feature and the tire pressure monitor. The City Safety feature is guaranteed to set off your radar detector’s LIDAR function. The Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) will error randomly while driving at highway speeds for no reason what-so-ever. I already took my car to the dealer once and they had not fixed the problem, so far I have been too lazy to take it back again, but will need to eventually. With a 5-year/60,000 mile free maintenance and warranty, I should have plenty of time.

Highlights from a 2010 Volvo XC60 review coming from Auto Scraze:
First up, Volvo has always made major emphasis on safety features. That is why in practically every Volvo car; you will find features like safety cages, three-point seatbelts, and even child door locks. In the 2010 Volvo XC60, much has not changed in respect to safety. Volvo has taken major advantage of electronics to give you high-tech safety solutions – there is distance alert system, and also City Safety – which means that the brakes are automatically put on if a low-speed collision seems likely.
The car is great to drive on city streets, because the maneuvers are pretty darn easy. There is a fantastic blind spot warning system available – which turns on a warning light if another car happens to be in the XC60’s blind spot on either side. This is really beneficial when it comes to city and freeway traffic. City Safety, as mentioned before, is the signature feature of the XC60.
There is a lane departure warning system – which works pretty well on this car. If you let the car drift over a lane line, or change lanes without signaling appropriately, the system warns you with a continuous beeping sound. You should definitely try out the adaptive cruise control – which is another feature of the Technology package. This feature uses forward-facing radar to detect vehicles in the lane ahead, and then reduces the speed of the XC60 to match the other vehicles’ speed.

With 1,378 registrations and a market share of 2.01 per cent, Volvo has also seen heightened performance of all models across the range, particularly the XC90 seven-seat SUV, S80 executive saloon and XC60 crossover.

In-car entertainment turned it up another wireless notch at last week’s Chicago Auto Show when Volvo showed off “the industry’s first Internet connected Rear Seat Entertainment System with Windows XP, WiFi and a 500G hard drive.”

Officially, it remains a test-bed study for the moment, but the idea is that you can do everything on a rear headrest touchscreen that you can do on your home computer. You can also plug your computer into the car and load the XC70’s system with your own music and video to keep things quiet in the back row. While it’s officially only in the ‘conceptual phase,’ we have it on very good authority that the system will be available in 2011 Volvo XC60 and XC70 models beginning this summer.

The all-new Volvo S60 is less premium saloon, more four-door coupe – and promises to be the most exciting Volvo yet.

Some might suggest that isn’t saying much, but Volvo really is placing an emphasis on the new S60’s driving prowess. The new Dynamic chassis will provide 10% faster steering input and much stiffer suspension.

Volvo’s existing Four-C active chassis system, which uses sensors to continually monitor the car and adjust the damping accordingly, will be available as an option on all new S60 variants. This gives a choice of Comfort, Sport and Advanced settings.

In common with the latest trend for executive transport, the all-new Volvo S60 is billed as a four-door coupé, rather than a traditional saloon.

It is certainly very swoopy, with flowing curves that Volvo refers to as ‘racetrack design’. LED lights feature front and rear, along with prominent contrast colour skid plates.

On the inside the sporty theme continues with instruments angled towards the driver, although this doesn’t come at the cost of passenger comfort. The S60 is still a full five-seater with an extra 30mm of rear knee space compared with the outgoing model.

There are plenty of storage options, the rear bench splits 40/60 and the boot opening is 100mm wider than before. The new electronic climate control includes an air quality system and a function that starts venting excess heat from the car as soon as the doors are unlocked.

All the usual premium refinements are available, including a high-tech infotainment centre, stereo upgrade option, parking cameras and adaptive cruise control.

Volvo says it has tested the ride quality in the UK, and that buyers should expect an impressive degree of suppleness whichever mode they select.

When I began reading about some of the safety systems on the new XC60, I figured I was headed for the equivalent of a long Saturday night at the Dallas Public Library.

Have you heard of “City Safety”? It uses a camera to sense when you’re approaching objects too quickly and literally slams on the brakes at speeds up to 9 mph, supposedly preventing you from doing the rumba with someone’s back bumper.

And this is definitely not a polite “put-down-your-latte-Buffy- we-need-to-stop” sort of deal. We’re talking locked brakes quivering in full ABS with people hanging from their seat belts here — an enormously amusing prospect for cellphone drunks. I got subjected to two tests of the system, and it seemed to really — ugh — work.

But the weird thing is that so does most everything else on the XC60, which is easily Volvo’s most stylish vehicle and one of its better-performing cars or crossovers.

Just to help you keep track of the landscape at Volvo, the XC60 is the newest of the automaker’s three crossovers.

At 4,174 pounds, it slots in between the 3,900-pound XC70 — a butched-up station wagon that calls itself a crossover — and the 4,700-pound XC90, Volvo’s most prominent crossover.

My metallic bronze, all-wheel-drive XC60 was loaded — as reflected in its lofty $44,240 sticker price. Equipped with a 281-horsepower, turbocharged, 3-liter six-cylinder and six-speed automatic, this beefy Volvo can sprint to 60 in 6.8 seconds, according to Motor Trend.

Style has never been one of sober, dowdy Volvo’s strengths, but the XC60 is a veritable hipster in a beret — not radically new or youthful, mind you, but certainly interesting.
